Blockchain-Based Cybersecurity Solutions for Automotive Industry: Protecting Over-the-Air (OTA) Software Updates in Autonomous and Connected Vehicles
Keywords:
Blockchain technology, Over-the-Air (OTA) software updatesAbstract
Automatic and connected vehicles (ACVs) have revolutionized the auto industry by improving safety, efficiency, and convenience. As vehicle control and communication increasingly depend on software, OTA software updates have created new cybersecurity vulnerabilities. OTA updates increase vehicle performance but may be compromised by unauthorized alterations, data tampering, and malicious code implants. Blockchain is examined as a cybersecurity option for ACV OTA software updates. Decentralized, secure, and immutable blockchain ledgers may assure OTA update integrity, authenticity, and transparency.
Vehicle cybersecurity risks, particularly OTA software updates, are investigated. Cryptographic signatures and centralized certificate authority may not protect connected cars from sophisticated hackers. The essay then highlights blockchain technology's unique properties that make it perfect for these issues. OTA update solutions are more durable since blockchain's decentralization lowers single point of failure. Blockchain records' immutability and openness prevent illicit changes by documenting and revealing all network members amendment attempts.
